moving stillness

Following on from the 'mysterious rooms and intersecting worlds' post, I also wanted to direct you to art photographer and mixed media artist Nadine Wood’s video.

‘For a closer look’ begins the voice on the track. Oblique percussion accompanies the speakers words, mismatching them.

And someone sits before us, behind a pane of glass.

This person sits in clown make up. A contemplative clown.

Not contemplative. Arrested, arresting. A female but not a feminine Bruce Nauman.

When is a clown not a clown? The clown here is not performing or trying to get our attention, but offering themselves for view nonetheless.

The eyes dare us to see, or wait for us to see. The gaze is direct, but we must look through. Through a pane of glass, through water which washes down over and seemingly through the eye. The makeup is running, though the water has not touched it.

'…now that I have startled you, goodbye’.

The track on the video is by an artist called Karl Blau and called 'Reincarnate'.
